What this site is
The ICYR Reading Room publishes plain-language guides for parents, teachers and students on how to read research about children and teenagers. It has a free study checklist that helps you decide how much weight to give one study, and six guides that explain the questions behind it.
What this site isn't
The Reading Room is not a research organization, network or membership body. It has no members, conducts no research, publishes no reports and runs no news service. It doesn't speak for any researcher, university or institution, and it has no connection to earlier owners of this domain or anything previously published on it.
Nothing here is medical, psychological, legal or educational advice about a particular child. For that, talk to a professional who knows the child.
Who writes it
The guides are written and maintained by the ICYR Reading Room editors, a small independent team with backgrounds in teaching and in reading research for a living. We don't take advertising, sponsorship or affiliate payments.
How we write
We try to explain each idea once, clearly, with an example. When we state a fact that may change, such as a policy or a guideline, we name who said it and when. Where research is uncertain, we say so rather than picking a side. Links to outside sources appear only where they help you check something yourself.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, unclear or out of date, email contact@icyrnet.net. We correct errors promptly and note significant changes in the guide's update date.
